Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) In height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Gules, on a dexter arm of a saltire Azure three alerions Argent, within a bordure per bordure of the first and Or.  Attached below and to the sides of the shield a Blue scroll turned Gold and inscribed ACCURACY WITH SPEED in Gold letters.

Symbolism
The design of the shield is based upon the coat of arms of the old 135th Field Artillery Regiment from which this organization has descended.  Civil War service is indicated by the saltire; World War I service, by the three alerions from the arms of Lorraine.  The border is scarlet and yellow for Artillery, is a heraldic mark of difference and indicates descent.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 16 September 1954.  It was rescinded on 23 September 1964.

That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Ohio Army National Guard:  On a wreath of the colors Or and Gules, a sheaf of seventeen arrows Argent bound by a sprig of buckeye (Aesculus glabra) fructed Proper (two leaves with bursting burr).
